According to some scientists online, fasting actually has its pluses - for one it makes you fresher, helps you check your food intake, and also helps your body to burn the stored fat. It also helps your skin glow.But as for me, the major benefit I have seen so far is the fact that my prayers seem to get through the switchboard, through the verification procedures of Heaven, and to the "Yes" zone in lightning speed. I really am tired of waiting and waiting for the monthly allowance that NYSC is supposed to pay me.... that was what was running through my head last week. I was just praying to God for favour, the type that a friend of mine got from baba God that he arranged his flat rent fees from nowhere. Anyway, I got to the LG office to submit my monthly clearance forms, and was trying to figure out how to broach the subject, when one of the ladies just looked at me and asked, "Are you really in a rush?" One of the quirks about livin in Lagos is the fact that at one point or the other, especially if you don't have a car, you can get caught in the rain. But the way you view the whole situation determines how you will end up. Everyday, I wake up tired... I sleepwalk through my morning routine - brush my teeth, bath, dress up, grab my laptop bag, and go out on the road. Most times the day hasn't even begun to dawn yet. I grab an okada, to the major busstop, then enter a danfo bus, or most times, an 'agege bread' bus - those ones that have raised roofs inside, that make you think that they were constructed only for tall, long people. I finally 'wake up' around 8.00 am, and its a good thing because work starts at 9.00. I leave by 6.00pm, and take another okada to another major bus park to board the convenient means of transport that our governor has so kindly disrupted our lives to provide - BRT. I play sudoku on my phone throughout the bus ride (I admit, sometimes I doze off, but I always try to get a window seat so I can at least lean on the sill). Then I take another okada to my home. I just fell in love...with Obama. I had not been opportuned to listen to any of his speeches until I was invited to join the Obama group on Facebook. I just checked out the group, and clicked this video - and fell in love. Had goosebumps crawling allover my body all through. I watched it once, then again, and again. Even though I do not live in America, I think the world could use a leader like that. I am only scared that what has happened to such voices in the world - those that get heard, those that are revolutionary, and those that speak for the masses, might happen to him. Yesterday I attended a naming ceremony of a friend. The Genesis of that is a long one, but let me try and summarize it. She got pregnant in her fourth year. Her boyfriend decided the best thing to do was get married - that is rare these days, as there are many abortion doctors available. You would think it ended well - guy marries girl, they finish school, and apart from their certificates, have also a certificate in parenthood, but no, it didn't end that way. Her parents refused to let her marry him because of religion. I know what you are thinking - muslim guy to christian girl (or vice versa), right? Wrong. She is from a Jehovah Witness home, and he is from an Anglican home. That should not cause any friction, since they are both Christians, right? Wrong! Her parents sent her out.
